The proliferation of graphic productions facilitated by digital tools creates an illusion of immediacy and tends to make us forget that the form is nothing but “the content rising to the surface”.
Putting the idea before the sign, the creative process is a subtle mechanism combining gesture and spirit, and turning everything upside down. It is often diffi cult to put words on this buried aspect of graphic design. Yet this is what allows one to expose and highlight creative choices without forcing them on others. It is also an essential part of what is transmitted.
Graphic designers work their way and follow their own path, either driven by their own ideas or answering requests. They mix drafts and crafts, knacks and hacks. Working alone or in cooperation with others, they slowly set up a method, build a real organisation or at least govern their doubts. Designers in progress make art and thwart like one-man bands playing with various devices, placing themselves within traditions and practices that the Rencontres de Lure invite you to discover from 24th to 30th August 2014 in Lurs, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
